Within the healthcare and human services industries there has been growing interest in holistic models of care, the effects of social determinates on health (SDoH), food security and its impact on health, and the impact of nature and green spaces on our mental and physical wellness. We will continue to place reference and reading materials here.
Problem: Our urban and technology dependent culture separates us from nature and where our food is grown. Our disconnection from these cycles can have a negative impact on our health.

Problem: People who have less usually have less access to green spaces. Underserved groups do not have equal access to land and resources. Social determinates of health disproportionally favor individual/communities with wealth and property.

Problem: The role of gardening and caring for plants has not received significant attention as a force for recovery, mental health, and wellness in our healthcare system. One of the largest studies to date on gardens and gardening, funded by Innovate UK and National Institute for Health Research, found that people who spent time in the garden report better physical and mental health levels than those who do not.
