Human Services.
Why is Eden Share relevant to healthcare and human service providers?
Since the 1960s, Social Ecology and the Ecological Approach to Social Work have served as the underpinning of our human services field. These approaches assert that individuals’ behavior is shaped and influenced by complex social, cultural, and physical environments and that individuals’ behaviors and actions, in turn, shape our society.
Not unlike managing the ecology in a garden, nurturing healthy interactions can have a positive impact on our mental health. There is a growing body of research that supports the role of nature and gardening in our physical and emotional well-being. Natural environments are often missing from clinical treatment settings like clinics, offices, hospitals, and programs that treat symptoms and conditions. We believe by adding this holistic component (through therapeutic and educational gardening), we can greatly improve outcomes for individuals trying to get better.
